New Rat.Net Members: How to find answers to most technical questions

You are always free to post a question in the tech oriented forum that covers your bike. Try to be quite specific about your question and give enough information about your bike to be helpful: eg: model, year, any modifications already done, etc. However, there are good resources already available on the site that may help you find your answer quickly and in the detail you need.

Here are two good places to start.

First, go to the Technical Data section of the Blogs Feature. There you will find answers to a number of specific questions and Keef has provided in that section two Blogs that link back to many threads that have discussed tech issues.

Go here for Tech Blogs: http://www.triumphrat.net/blogs/technical-data-2/

IF YOU HAVE SOME GOOD INFORMATION TO SHARE THAT CAN BE USEFUL FAR DOWN THE ROAD, DON'T JUST LOSE IT IN THE FORUMS: It would help a lot if people who post tech stuff that is going to be useful for a long time would also post it in the Blogs tech section. That gathers it in one place and makes it a whole lot easier to find than a search, which can be hit or miss, especially if you don't use just the right search words. At least post a link with a clear title of what is being linked to in the Blogs.

Second, you can search for specific issues in the Search Function found in the header of almost every page. You can click on that and it will tell you what you can search by, which forums, or all forums you can search, and you can design your search accordingly.

Here is a direct link to that function;

Although it is time consuming and sometimes not productive, you can simply scroll back through the pages of the forum that covers your bike and look for threads that discuss what you are asking about. You might not find what you are looking for, but you may learn a lot about the site and the forum by such browsing.

Finally, all members are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Techical Data Blog segment and to contribute their own contributions to the "how to" of getting a task accomplished with your bike. You can either publish step by step instructions or you can even simply provide a link back to a particularly good thread on the subject.

If you have any questions or suggestions to improve this sticky, please send a PM to me or any other mod.

Monte :)
