Motone has released quite inexpensive tank. However it's EFI version only, so dunno if it's easily modified for carbed use. Main problem seems to be the huge hole for fuel pump.
I like their quality on pieces I've seen so far. However few little things bother me, like instructions or using same wire color coding as triumph, but for different purposes. Ground was live and vise verse in tail tidy kit.
It wasn't hard to spot, as when you pressed brakes the turn signals would also light up . Just little inconvenient.
I suggested covering the fuel pump opening with an oval plate with provisions to mount a petcock. This way, one fuel tank pressing covers both carbed and EFI bikes. Count me in if they do that.
Tank capacity is 16.6 litres. Got to admit I'm very taken with it....would like some nice knee pads and I'd probably paint it. Are there any negatives to an aluminium tank? Rob
I like to use a mag tank bag normally. However this looks real sweet. I wonder where it is made? Surely not old blightly? I know there is a bloke in India making nice stuff.
Wow. I want one.
I've been looking at an aluminum Manx replica tank for the EFI bonnie on eBay, but it's around $1500 and is longer than stock. This looks thinner (more clearance for clip-ons), but still doesn't move the seat back. With everybody over there freaking out about Brexit, this might be a great deal if exporting it doesn't jack the price up too much.
They are hand made overseas. Stamped from aluminum and then tig welded. Finished product is then mirror polished. Motone has their own facilities that these are made in. The first batch will be in the US any day now, If anyone is interested, we are running introductory pricing on them.
WOW! Quick service. As anybody from Canada knows, to get anything shipped from the States and receive it in less than a week - virtually unheard of. I am impressed with the tank as well as the service that I received from Brian at
A & J Cycles.
The tank is well made; reasonably heavy gauge; and is it highly polished! Mounting the tank was easy -
swap over the fuel pump and cap and bolt it on. I changed the fuel filter while I was at it.
There was a little more fabrication with the seat and front fender but all went well.
I had to wait for an overcast day to take the picture because the tank was so shiny. Still lots of reflection.
I guess one of my winter projects will be to spend a couple of hours with a polishing wheel trying to make
the seat and fender match.
The brake reservoir is another winter project (there's not many riding days left in Canada). The emblem is a mid teens font that I bought on line at https://www.isaydingdong.co.uk/
I'm still waiting for a carb version of this tank. Any updates on that?
