Does anyone have the rear luggage rack from Tec Bike Parts? If so, just wondering about the fit and quality. It appears to be very similar in design to other higher priced racks.
I bought their side racks to keep throw over bags out of the rear wheel. Noticed this weekend that the chrome has cracked and peeling at a welded joint after 600 miles. I didn't expect a lot for the US$39 I spent, but 600 miles? I noted that the UK store is selling tail racks with sub-standard finish at a big discount, but not the US supplier. I guess the US supplier got better stock?
hi joey
i bought one of the Tec factory seconds rear racks in black for a trip to the Isle of Man TT races this year, i paid £39 ($60).
yes the paint finish is not the best (maybe thats why they're seconds?) but the welds look good enough, and compared to £96 ($150) for the renntec or triumph factory rack i think it was a bargain.
I have the rack in black on my Scrambler. If you look closely you can tell it's a budget item. The finish is not perfectly even. The bolt holes under the seat did not line up perfectly and I had to tweak it to get the bolts started. In a couple years when it had wear and tear on it I'll be glad I bought the cheap rack.
I bought the center stand at the same time. It works. The Spring Seems To weak. May need to find a stronger one if it bounces on rough roads.
We have the chrome one on Mrs. Mayday's Bonneville. I don't recall any trouble installing it. It seems sturdy enough, though not as rigid as the Triumph rack on my bike. Some of the welds look a little messy, and after two years stored outside under a carport, there are a few spots of rust showing up around the welds. I'm sure the rust spots would come right off with a little polish. Overall, a pretty good value, at half the price of the Rentech or Triumph racks.
I bought the TechBikeParts USA Chrome Touring Rack recently. I have to say I was very disappointed in the quality of the rack.
The rack appears to be thinly/poorly chromed. It has what look like teeth marks (from a holding vice) beneath the chrome. Also messy/amateurishly welded seems. There is a hole drilled underneath the grab bar that has sharp edges that dig into your fingers. Also the two metal braces beneath the rack have sharp edges and are poorly chromed. I expect it to begin rusting within a year or two. Just a very disappointing purchase.
Honestly, I have gotten similar or better quality from JC Whitney, back when they used to sell motorcycle parts..
