I was riding to work this evening and Bonnie started running odd like she was running out of fuel. I turned the corner and she just died.

The night was black as can be. Fortunately, I was well armed and had a little Surefire LED flashlight.

I tried to restart her and she would turn over but nothing else. I ran her almost to reserve that afternoon and filled the tank.

I started with the usual rattling of wires, looking in the fuel tank etc. I tried to restart her a few times then she fired up. She ran fine the rest of the way to work

We'll se how she runs on the way home.

Weird,
MF

Possible gas cap venting issue. It's been covered here before, but in short, the next time this happens unscrew the cap a bit and see if the problem goes away. If so, replace the gas cap. At least I hope that it is this simple!

Cheers!

Why? :???:
Why replace the gas cap if it's not venting properly? I don't know about you, but I'd prefer not to need to unscrew mine every time my bike begins to stall. It's especially difficult for me at highway speeds.

I am ASSUMING, of course, that this is the problem. I just thought that it would be a good place to start diagnosing the problem since it is such an easy test. I've had this problem as well and solved it with a trip to the dealer and a new cap.

Cheers!

If the problem is due to the gas cap not venting right, there is a better fix than a new gas cap.

Make sure your tank vent isn't pinched or closed off some other way. Generally this is all that needs to be fixed.

Just be careful putting the gas tank back on so that you don't pinch the vent again.
