I don't understand what Moto Guzzi is up to. I checked their lineup a week ago and was astonished to find that they no longer really have a sportbike class. Yeah, they have the Breva, and they have the Griso, but nothing with a fairing. Granted, I don't usually like faired bikes, but I thought their V11 was pretty darn cool.
Moto Guzzi has always heard a differant drummer. From my understanding, with Aprillia affiliations, they will concentrate on sport bikes and Guzzi the cruisers, but they do change thier minds a bunch. NIce people, nice bikes.
Guzzi is part of the huge and growing Euro-conglomerate of Piaggio & C., s.p.a., the company that for forty years only made the Vespa scooter. Now they own Vespa, Piaggio, Moto Guzzi, Derbi, Aprilia, and Gilera. They have extensive agreements with BMW corp. and have developed a couple engines together with them as well as the entire F650/Pegaso. Though I like many of the Piaggio group's products, I think their steady conglomeration of all the small European brands is bad - clearly Guzzi and Aprilia show Piaggio Group's intention to turn each brand into a single-type maker. Aprilia is becoming their sport bike arm, Guzzi their "cruiser" arm.
