Dealer tool has facility for throttle synchronisation and some component testing features, like test for fuel pump, instruments, etc. Torque App and Bluetooth readers doesn't.
TuneECU has all the above plus map reading, editing and loading new maps as well as stuff like speedo calibration, rev limiter setting, deleting AI and O2 sensors, etc.
The Bluetooth device is still very useful to read parameters of sensors, identify fault codes and turn off MIL light, setting idle revs, etc.
I have Dealer Tool, Tune ECU, and the Torque Pro App.
It is probably fair to compare Dealer Tool and Tune ECU. For most users, they do about the same thing. They are diagnostic tools and Tune ECU allows the user to modify the ECU programs.
The Torque Pro App is a different animal all together. It is oriented toward performance monitoring and neither Tune ECU nor Dealer Tool do that.
If you want a good diagnostic tool, Dealer Tool and Tune ECU are what you want. If you want the ability to modify the ECU program or if you don't want to spend much money, Tune ECU is the what you want.
If you want performance information like 1/8th mile times, rpm where horsepower peaks, or you want to know the temperature of your oil, then the Torque Pro App is the tool.
Another nice feature of the Torque Pro App is that it will identify fault codes. I have the app installed on a Nexus 7 tablet that I bought just for this. I also scanned my Triumph manual and put that on the Nexus so I am in pretty good shape for trouble on the road.
Plus, when I was camping the other weekend. I climbed out of the tent, switched on my ignition and checked the air temp by using the Torque Pro App. Pretty handy.
As usual, excellent information. Thank you. I have a couple of bonehead questions: Specifically, will Torque enable me to clear the service indicator (wrench icon in display on my Tiger, I assume there's something similar on the Bonnie). Also, can Torque be used to observe throttle body balance for purposes of syncing? If so, I'll have a Twinmax for sale very soon......
As you can tell, I'm a rank newbie in the area of bike computer diagnostics. I've installed Torque on my Nexus 7, and a $10 Bluetooth dongle is on the way from eBay. Looking forward to playing with new toys. If I didn't have Windows 8.1 on my laptop, I'd be using Dealertool. At this point, I'm not sure I trust myself with Tuneecu.
My thruxton r has recently thrown a p1576 code which is due to my fender eliminator. Will this device work on my bike to clear the code? Sorry im new to this whole obd2 scanner thing.
Yes, any of the software mentioned on this thread will clear the codes and turn off the check light but if the fault that causes it is still there it'll be back...
More about code P1756 caused by messing with the lights on this thread:
Thanks Forchetto.
R&G have will be sending me a replacement brake light unit to hopefully clear me of this code. As a precaution though, my dealer suggested to use the original brake light unit just to make sure it isn't actually a brake switch failure.
