If the clutch is dragging and causing faulty gear chages there is no adjustment you can make with the cable, unless you take out all the slack and some more as a get you home measure. Drag is usualy caused by wrong oil, buckled plates or uneven spring presure...The slack in the cable is there so that it doesnt load up the pushrod release mechanism and cause wear....The symptoms here are selection as you say something not right with the pawl selection hopefully its not the selector drum and selector forks if these are defective it will give the same problem..........

I know how you feel I dont have any faith in the mechanics at my dealer, when I asked them a question on my bike what kind of plug socket they used I had my doubts as to their knolwege If you bought the bike new you have your rights to it being fixed properly by Triumph and I would cause a stir as the bike is not fit for use You dont need abike that has been played about by the mechanic you bought a new bike not a second had one.....See the C.A.B ...or someone about consumer rights..

I've had this problem with my T100 for the past 10,000 kilometers, so therefore have been watching this thread hoping a solution is eventually found.
my bike has now reached about 70,000 kilometers and was always ok, but suddenly it started to show similar symptoms, especially going from 2nd to 1st. it felt like the gear lever was loose and not engaging anything.
I started a thread on this topic a month or so ago, and it was suggested that:-
a/ perhaps I have not been lifting my foot sufficiently in order to allow the gear lever to fully return,
b/ one of the springs that returns the lever may be stretched
it only happens occasionally and I have been mindful to make sure my foot doesn't get in the way of the lever to fully return and have not investigated the internals of the gearbox for the problem
but after reading this post, I do recall adjusting the clutch cable months ago that may have coincided with this problem, also, about 15,000 Ks ago I switched to a heavier engine oil. went from 10w-40 to 20w-50
however, I don't see how this would allow the gear selector lever to move freely as if not engaged with anything
