i had been looking at the lithium batteries i only seen one with big power in colder weather close to $300 USA, most are lighter but thats it

I've been reading as much as possible about Li batteries concerning their cold weather performance from the manufacturers who say no problems to anecdotal accounts from owners to myth busting videos on Youtube. Owners will say that they need to warm up via a load such as leaving the ignition on with lights before starting. Others say they will warm up after repeated cranking and a fast return to full charge vs depleting a lead acid battery if the bike doesn't fire right up. I'm not sold on these batteries for colder riding. The Chevy Volt's mileage range is quite a bit lower in colder weather. Li batteries have many advantages over lead acid, but I don't think cold weather operation is one of them. I'm sure someone will say I'm wrong.

You may laugh, but an old school wet cell battery where you have to keep an eye on the electrolyte level and possibly have battery acid leaking where it shouldn't is still a very good battery for a motorcycle, even in cold conditions.

I've got a shorai in my "battery eat'n" ATK605 - much smaller, lighter, and more powerful. no complaints or issues so far. will certainly go that route when the trumpet needs a new one

You're not wrong. Porsche have a LiFePo battery option on their cars but it comes with a normal battery as well so the owner can use it in the Winter to replace the lightweight Lithium one. A quote from the press release:

"As always with a Porsche, options don't come cheap. The 18 Ah lithium ion battery will cost €1,904 in Germany including the 19% value-added-tax. Interestingly, when ordered, the car comes with the standard battery as well as the lithium ion. That's because in cold temperatures (below freezing), the lead battery has to be put back in the car, because the lithium performance drops off too much. Since drivers are unlikely to be driving quite as fast when it's that cold having, the heavier battery in place shouldn't be too much of a problem. For those that need to squeeze the absolute maximum performance out of their Porsche, the factory is always happy to help you find ways to spend your money".
