Considerably lower exhaust system temperature. Much less blueing of the pipes.
Easier access to the spark plugs.
Reduced or eliminated popping back or backfiring noises from the silencer on deceleration.
Reduced clutter on top of the cylinder head.
On EFI models a softer more gradual feeling to opening/closing the throttle. Less throttle snatch.

Find one of these in your landlord's toolbox.
It's one of those thingamajigs that you plug open live wires with.
Medium sized. Fits perfectly snug in the hose, past the ribbed part, right up to the angle, so it won't go anywhere. The plug the hose back in.
Just for peace of mind, I'll put a zip tie around its widest part, although it is really snug inside.
Only did a quick lap around the block but man, what a difference!
I ride a 2010 Scrambler with an Arrow pipe and I used to get major popping on decel.
The throttle feels smoother on acceleration, the mid range has lost a bit of the machine gun bark, keeping the nice deep tones and zero popping on deceleration.
