I've got an '08 T100, bone stock aside from an AI removal. This started yesterday, completely out of the blue...it's long but I don't know enough to know what's relevant and what isn't:
Topped off my tank yesterday (added a little over two gallons) and went for a short 20 mile or so ride. Bike was running like a dream. I got home, parked, went inside for a few hours, and came back out to take off on the bike again.
Hit the starter, and the bike fired up. Idling a little low - probably 500-600rpm, but it will usually do this steadily even if a little cold. Usually warms up to 1100rpm or so. Went inside to get backpack and helmet while it warmed up a little (although it was 70ish outside). Came back out and bike wasn't running...stalled. Thought "must have been colder than I thought," so I set the choke and hit the starter again - spins but won't catch. I can smell the odor of gas. Turn off choke, spins but won't catch. Had to leave, so I put it back in the garage and took my car.
Today I wake up and go to start the bike. Set the choke, starts right up and idles around 1200 or so as I watch it for about a minute. Go inside to get jacket and helmet. Come back out, bike's not running. Stalled again. I turned the choke off again, hit the starter, and it started and seemed to idle fine for a few minutes.
This afternoon I decide to take it around the block for a ride. Come out, set full choke, bike starts. Idles around 1200-1300rpm for about 2 minutes and stalls. I try to start it again, spins but won't catch. I turn off the choke and try to start it without - won't catch. I twist the throttle wide open and hit the starter, and after about 8-10 seconds it catches. Seems to run fine, I keep the throttle up around 2000 for about two minutes, let it idle (around 1000rpm) and it stalls. Start it again with a twist of the throttle, it idles normally for about two minutes. I take it around the block and it seems to run fine for 5 minutes or so, then stalls as I come to a stop. I start it with a twist of the throttle and go home.
It's back in the driveway now. I can start it using the throttle (almost wide open but no choke) and it settles to its normal idle of 1000rpm but stalls almost immediately now. It stumbles once, then dies as if I had turned off the key. Once it dies I can't restart it now for 20 or 30 minutes. It won't run under 1500rpm now for longer than 20 or 30 seconds without stalling. If I keep the revs up around 2000+ it seems to run fine.
The bike has barely over 5000 miles on it. It's still under warranty and will be headed for the dealership on Tuesday when it re-opens, but if there's something I can do to get it running properly for some monday afternoon riding I'd like to do it. I think it's gotta be a fuel problem somewhere, but I don't know what.
I've been lurking here since I bought the bike, and want to thank you all in advance for your help. I know this group knows its stuff.
