Considering buying 2006 bonnie - advice needed

I own a 2007 bonnie black, my husband is now jealous and wants one of his own. I'm pushing for it of course because it's hard to share:)

Yesterday we found an '06 Silver with 170 miles on it for $6500. Does this seem like a good deal? And also, what kinds of problems might be associated with it that we should look out for? Original oil in it for 2 years? Upon visual inspection, it looked clean, but we haven't ridden it yet, which he will probably do this week.

Your advice and comments are much appreciated! I've never posted before, but LOVE browsing through the threads and have found much needed advice!!

That's not a bad deal. If it does have 2 year old oil in get that changed ASAP with a new filter. Put another 400 miles on it and repeat.

Who buys a motorcycle and puts on only 170 miles in two years though? I'd want to know. Was it a new rider who went down on it and decided they didn't want to ride?

Too much

I think that is too high. Bikes for sale with such low miles seem like a bargain but I think they are not such a good deal. A new one goes for 1K more. That is what my dealer sells one for, MSRP plus $45.00 for paperwork. Taxes are collected by the state. With the one you are looking at, you will not have a warranty and with so few miles there has not been an opportunity to shake out any problems. Then you will have to come up with the 500 mi. service if you so choose. On a new bike I would opt for that service to protect the warranty but that point may be moot in this case. Kelly blue book average is about $5800. I would bargain hard on that bike.

'06 silver

+1 on what Anchor said.
Wheel and deal on that baby. I'd offer $5700 and be willing to give up to $6000. That would be a pretty sweet price considering such low miles. Ask lots of questions regarding reasons for selling and get a feel for the situation. Impulse buy, scared themselves, or maybe there is a mechanical hickup....etc. etc. Ride it, listen to it, etc. You have a Bonnie already, you'll have a good idear if something is wrong. Look for leaks, listen for unusual clicks or noises, feel for smooth clutch engagement and shifting (these trannys clunk a bit on shifting but it is a solid "good" clunk).

Avoiding all of the dealers fee's is always a good thing in my eye. The money saved adds up to payment of tax, insurance for a year and maybe some Norman Hyde Togas!

If the oil level is ok, finish putting your five hundred miles on it and then get it serviced. IMHO changing the break in oil for new break in oil would probably be unnecessary but you'll get LOTS of advice on this one either way.

Good luck! The silvers are gorgeous!

I think the price is ok givin the fact that the bike is still basicly new.Plus in my opinion the 06' is a better quality bike than the 08'.You'll be getting a nice brushed aluminum engine and real metal screw on tank badges. Not to mention you'll also be getting a U.K built Bonnie.

06Bonne

Milage is kinda funny? 06 is a better bike than a new one & a UK bike. The price is hi as well
Id have it checked @ a Triumph shop & offer as said $5700 & work off that. If all works out- Id rather have the 06 than a nrew one. Actually Id rather have an04 oh I do? than an 06. Play it & good luck!!

You can bargain a little more for a better price, but yes, you get a UK made Bonnie (with steel fenders, side covers and tank badges). But like Squier 51 said, it's very important to change oil and filter ASAP and repeat after another 400 miles.

I'd look really close for a sign that it may have been stationary dropped or set down. Not a bad thing, but could be used to knock more off the price

I agree with the others that said you should bargain hard for it. Low mileage bikes can be hard to sell because the owner expects a higher price, but most people won't pay high for a used bike.

I would not worry about the milage, I have a 2006 T100 with only 125 miles done, lots of genuine reasons, work/illness/and my Triumph Thunderbird, what I should have done is waited a while as I retired a few weeks ago but no regrets, although I do like the anniversary bonnie. I think the price is a steal, go for it!
