Does anyone have any experience with the Norman Hyde pannier rail kit for Bonneville?

I have a brand new set of Givi E22 hard luggage and am looking for a way to mount them. Givi don't have a product, but Norman Hyde (not unexpectedly) has collaborated with them to offer a bespoke aftermarket mounting kit:

It's 150 quid plus another 66 for air shipping to my neck of the woods. Its a fair chunk of money and with a highly unfavourable exchange rate (no fault of theirs, mind) plus customs duty it will start approaching 10% of what I paid for the bike initially.

I'm deciding whether to bite the bullet on these or save a whole lot of money and build my own (famous last words - "how hard can it be?") and I thought it would be a good idea to be buttered up (or not, as the case might be) by someone who has or has had these.

Thanks!

I built my own from old 3/8" steel rod for a Honda Shadow, with rear shocks like the Bonnie also, and they we sturdier than any I could buy and the cost was about 3 hours of my time and the steel. I used a variety of hand and power tools to fashion the rack. It was sturdy for sure. You can build one if you have basic construction skills and the ability to measure accurately! Sorry, no pictures of the old rack, back in the paper photo days...

I had these on my 2009 Bonnie, but I hacksawed off the signal extensions and put red reflectors over the resulting holes. They worked well with Givi E21s.

I've been using this kit for years without problem. I'd recommend it. It seemed very expensive when I bought one in the UK. Shipping to you seems very expensive - you can't be far off the cost of coming here on a budget airline!
I did have a Norman Hyde carrier for my top box. Given the cost of that I felt angry when the welds broke while I was riding home. Fortunately, I had made a tether to stop it all falling off onto the road. I got a replacement from a different manufacturer.
