Unhappy Tank Side Rubber Pad problem

I bought new rubber side pads and placed on my Bonneville. The original pads were wearing out and black stuff will deposit of my trousers. In the beginning, the new aftermarket pads, worked well but now have the same problem. The black rubber is depositing on pants. Any recommended remedy to solve this problem. Is there a way to treat the pads outer surface to prevent this. Thanks,

I have a feeling there will not be a good way to do that. Im thinking the rubber is probably a natural type rubber that will deteriorate with UV rays etc.. I think any coating you try to put on there will just come off fairly quickly.
