Lady cut across an intersection making a left turn and hit me. Knee is dislocated. Bonnie probably totaled. Waiting for ortho to get the story.

Not stressing about the bike. Easy to replace. Will need total knee reconstruction at age 50. That's gonna suck and probably haunt me the rest of my life physically.

Even though you likely didn't need it, I have many acquaintances who love life with mechanical knees instead of their worn out OEM knees. Best of luck on the recovery. Take your meds.

Ouch! On the lighter side, why can't these things happen in Sept or Oct? Kinda cuts into your riding season. Double the suggestion on doing the therapy full bore. I was laid up 3 months with big time achilles surgery. Should have been more diligent doing therapy. Achilles is fine, but I gained 20 lbs over 6 months :(

Back from "surgery" #1. Closed reduction and realignment with serious splint. Foot is now straight and joint out into alignment. Patellar tendon is 100% off the tibea and most of other time dons are torn or displaced. Next surgery will be done in a few days and start the rebuild process.

Pain is moderate but getting very compassionate care here.

I rode through there all the time on the way to my oldest sons baseball games at Nash. The Bonnie will be towed to Ken at Shoreline for eval and a repair quote. I could be wrong on it being totaled, but I doubt it.

Sorry to hear, hope your recover goes well. I broke my ankle playing flag football, took 4 months until I was riding again. It's been about 7 months and I am doing fine, stiff and sore sometimes.

Best advice I can give is improve your diet, I lost 12 lbs and eat like a heath nut, think it helped with my recover.

Good luck,

That really sucks, can't use the usual quotes "at least you didn't get hurt" because you did; "at least you walked away from it," I'm guessing you didn't walk away with that knee; so I'll just stick with "it could have been worse." Unfortunately, given our short riding season in WI I'm going to wish you a speedy recovery and good riding next year on what could be a new bike.

Yeah, I'm still in hospital. Knee reconstruction should be Mon or Tues this week. Then the incredibly long and tough rehab starts. Won't be ready to ride again this year for sure. Not sure when/if I will again. Not going to make any final decisions at this time though. Too close to incident. Thanks to all for the support!

Damn John

So sorry to read this. Absolutely sucks. Please keep us informed of your recovery. Although it wouldnt make much difference - I'm going to buy some riding pants with armor knee pads. Jeez, how things can go wrong in just a moment!

You will be riding next year. For now, just heal up. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

Thanks for the link. My bony structures and cartilage appear to be ok. It's the strings and rubber bands that are the problem. Knee replacement replaces the hard bits for the most part reusing the connective tissue. My CT is all torn up.

A competent ortho surgeon is going to reconnect the ligaments, tendons, strings and rubber bands. Worst case scenario is that he'll have to steal some tissue from another part of your body.

The important thing is that this is all taking place relatively soon after the accident. They're able to work with it.

Sometimes patients come in for consultation months after their injury. "Yeah, I injured myself about three months ago and it's not getting any better." At which point the provider has to inform them that the tissue has already scarred in and nothing can be done.

Again, that's not you. It sounds like you'll be fine. With some time.

May even have to steal connective tissue from someone else's body - cadaver parts.

Very good of you to share. We are all, in our own ways, "feeling" your pain. Posting this reminds us all to be aware, be careful, and watch out for those who aren't watching where they're going.

We can't make other drivers be more careful, but seeing what can happen certainly will make many of us increase our attentiveness toward the road ahead.

Send updates!

My 92 year old Mom just had her 3rd knee replacement, this time replacing a previously replaced knee.

She's doing fine in rehab, and you will too. Even though you are getting yours fixed and not repped the level of knowledge and skill now is just amazing.

Now drag the perp into court.
