Hi,

I have ordered parts through Bike Bandit and have found that it takes 3-4 weeks to receive Triumph parts. I have recently ordered items to start my valve check/adjustment - valve cover gasket and tool to remove camshafts. This is taking 3-4 weeks and then I have to order shims which will likely take another 3-4 weeks. Is there anywhere to order Triumph parts that won't have my bike down for half the summer?

I ordered some basic parts from BikeBandit for my Scrambler on 06/16 and they just shipped it today. Unfortunately, I am not a very technical guy, so I like the fact that I can see the diagrams on BikeBandit and order exactly what I need. http://triumphparts.calmoto.com/ seems to be another store with BikeBandit style ordering, but I don't know if they are any faster.

Hermy's is great for service. If your local dealer doesn't have them, try Hermy's

I don't even bother with the local dealer any more and just order from Hermy's. Never had to wait very long for anything and since my local charges $18 for the $9.99 Triumph oil filter its really a no brainer as Hermys sells it at $9.99 and no tax since I am out of state..

I have bought all my parts Triumph and Honda from Bike Bandit. The Triumph parts have always made it in a week and a half. A week to get to the west coast then BB puts them on FedEx express to get them to me in 2 days at no additional cost to me. Usually with an apology for the lengthy shipping time and sometimes with a 10% coupon off the next order.
At least that is the way it has been on the four or five orders I have done with them this last year.
For the savings it has been well worth it. Very satisfied.

Just my 2 cents.

I ordered the parts on 6/14 and today is the 28th. No updates on the order, their web site just shows in progress... After this order arrives which includes the tool and pins to lock the cam chain tensioner, I will be able to pull the cams and measure for the shims I need. Based on my experience so far, this will be another 4 weeks, totaling 8 weeks to get the parts to complete my valve adjust.

I have always used Ron Ayers in the past for my other bikes and no complaints. I would still use Ron Ayers, but they don't carry Triumph parts.

I will try Hermy's next time or ask my local Triumph dealer if they have a supply of shims and are willing to swap shims.

If Hermy's has it, you'll get it quickly. If they have to order it from Triumph and it's in the USA, figure 7 - 10 days to AZ. They get BIG shipments weekly from TNA on Tuesdays.

If it's not in the country, that's whenever. CS is very good there, so just call if you have questions. It's basically a big "old school" BMW and Triumph dealer for decades.

Probably can't swap shims PA to AZ though. ;)

PS. If I needed it VERY quickly and Hermy's didn't have it lying around, I'd probably call Baxter's as they are large and old, just not set up like Hermy's for quick mail order.

Thanks for the info on Hermys. My local triumph dealer is one of the mega dealers that sells just about everything, so they don't specialize in Triumph. I guess I'm just use to getting the parts for my Japenese bikes in a week or so and I'm expecting the same for Brit parts.

You should be able to get the shims from other sources, faster, if your dealer doesn't want to swap them. They're a generic item and are used in a variety of other motors. I've seen Japanese motorcycles and Toyota cars mentioned on this forum.

If I were buying them, I'd call Hermy's and probably have them in a couple days. My local dealer was willing to swap shims after I paid a small "service fee".

If you swap, mark each of the shims you're bringing in with its size with a Sharpie marker, and bring along your Sharpie and your micrometer. Measure and mark each one that you're taking.

I get my shims from an outfit called Z1 enterprises. Usually have them within 2-3 days.

And you really don't need to change the cam cover gasket every time either. I've only replaced mine once in 111k miles. You can get away without the Triumph tools. I use a small bolt with one end turned down with a grinder to hold the cam gear springs in place .

I purchased the Triumph tool to lock the cam chain tensioners in place on the cam gears. I agree, I could have stuck a bolt through the hole to achieve the same thing. I got all the shims and installed them and every valve is in spec now. When putting the oil pipe back on, the banjo bolts broke with hardly any torque at all applied. I used new crush washers also. I guess they may have been over torqued and weakened before hand - who knows. So now I have on order new banjo bolts and another set of crush washers. Overall, it was an easy process and way easier compared to doing a valve adjustment on my FJR-1300.
