Missed Opportunity for Triumph

I hope this has not been beat to death, but I won't let that stop me. I was thinking about bikes that I did not purchase and wish I had, one of those was a 1977 Bonneville Silver Jubilee, celebrating 25 years of Queen Elizabeth's reign. It was 1983 and the local Euro cycle place had one. I passed on it because I was really a Norton man back then, and as much as I liked the Bonnie, it was more than the Commando 850. Lame reason for passing it by and I've always regretted a little not picking it up.

Just thinking about all the special editions that Triumph put out, 100 years, 110 years, Steve McQueen, Red, New Castle, Green, The one with wheels, etc etc...

How did Triumph not put out the Golden Jubilee T-100 Bonneville? What a missed opportunity to cash in on Queen Elizabeth's 50 year reign. I think this color combo is a good start.

What do you Guys say?

Triumph also missed the Billy Jack connection. How about the Billy Jack Scrambler?

And the girl in the car, Cissy Colpitts. Went to college with her. She actually won "Miss Watermelon Bust" at the annual watermelon festival.
http://www.mocavo.com/The-Drift-Butler-University-1968-Volume-76/866911/29 BTW, her IMDB says she was born in 1954. NFW, that would have made her 14 in 1968, and not even Lambda Chi would have let her be in the contest. I was 18 in '68, and she was older than me by a year or two.

I stand corrected, I said Golden Jubilee, but I was thinking Diamond Jubilee. An accessory kit is a nice touch, but a limited edition tribute to the Monarchy shows more tradition and pedigree than Hollywood Heroes or Footballer endorsements.

It would appear I'm just out of touch, if I really knew anything I'd be in marketing. perhaps I'll just shut up.

.........I was thinking about bikes that I did not purchase and wish I had........
Riding since the early 60's I too eventually started thinking about all the bikes I didn't get.

I got the CL175 instead of the DT250.
I got the CB750 instead of the H1.
I got the GT380 instead of the RD400.
I got the GS1000 instead of the CBX
and many others....

Somewhere back in the late 60's & early 70's I would look over Bonneville and Norton but would just shake my head and walk away.

By the 90's and I'm in my 40's I decided to start buying all the bikes I didn't get.

I've since restored:

67 Yamaha YM-1 305
67 Kawasaki TS120 SS
70 Kawasaki 175 Bushwacker
71 H1
74 H2
77RD400
71 DT250
69 CBX
A stupid HD instead of a BMW (what was I thinking!!!)

and many others.....

At least I now have a 2010 BMW R1200R.

And, I finally have a Bonneville. It's a 2014 T100SE but, better late than never.
