how the &%*$# do I tell if my seat is a gel. Previous owner said it was...

It's on a scrambler fwiw...

Anyone with a pic of the bottom of a gel seat?

If you can only ride for five miles before numbness sets in, you have the stock seat. If you can go 100 miles or so without numbness setting in, you have the gel seat.

:)

I'm not near the bike but what numbers should I be looking for? as in what corresponds to gel? there weren't any numbers that I recall...

from google...

Gel Comfort Seat - Triumph Bonneville, SE, and T100 (A9700246)
Triumph Scrambler Gel Seat (A9700136)
Triumph Thruxton Gel Seat (A9700135)

the numbers are embossed onto the underside of the seat pan. basically take the seat off, flip it over, and view the surface in good light. you should see it.

if there are no numbers, check for a glowing red dot on your person. they're on to you....

just kidding. good luck!

Cool, thanks I'll take a look but I don't remember seeing any embossed numbers in the plastic pan last time I looked. Is that an indicator that it's a stock seat? Thanks again!

:D

Thank you! I have no such tag and will look at the numbers tomorrow.

I appreciate all the replies guys :)

Doesn't the Scrambler gel seat have white lettering for the "Triumph" on the back?

I'll be able to look at the seat pan tomorrow.

Is the gel seat the best option for comfort?

I had burton bike bits seat on my bonnie and it was ok but not a big upgrade in comfort over stock. Some but not enough for longer rides imo.

the gel seat is absolutely not the best option for comfort. there is a triumph engineer somewhere that will burn in hell for designing that seat. i would love to meet this person so i can follow him and make sure his ass is impaled with a railroad spike before he sits down on any surface. i can't believe i paid money for the gel seat at one point.

If all else fails, set the seat out in the sun for a half hour, if the seat becomes unbelievably hot to touch, you have a gel seat, if not, then not.
WRT comfortable Triumph seats - the Scrambler solo w/ luggage rack; the King/Queen, while ugly as ever, is good and a Burton seat is ($$$).
Just remember, YRMV...
Good luck!

OK just read this thread and happen to have my seat off so I decided to check.

Numbers on the bottom of the seat are (from back to front)

2300603 (Below embossed Triumph Logo)

4020217 (Below embossed SDM Selvazzano (PF) Italy

Sticker forward of that that reads "SDM 2300603 25~04~5"

Sticker next to that with care instructions in 6 languages.

Stock Seat? Gel Seat? After Market?:confused::confused:

pretty confident that mine is not a gel, here are a coupla pics of the underside. I had a single seat w/rack on my Bonnie a while ago and it was very comfy but I did not like the looks. is the scrambler gel seat as comfy?

I have a Solo seat with rack, also have a Scram gel seat and a stock Scram seat. The solo seat is more comfortable by far,the gel seat is better than the stock Scram seat. Easy way to tell if it is a gel seat (besides leaving it out in the sun) is that the gel seat cover is a lot grippier than the stock vinyl, more like moleskin.

I have the stock and gel seats. As mentioned above, the gel seat has a small "Triumph" tag (looks like a Levi's jeans tag) stitched under the top welt to the rear of the grab strap.

The top surface also has a slightly matte finish as opposed to the shiny vinyl of the original. As also mentioned above it gets hotter than blazes when left in direct sunlight. For that reason I rarely use it.

Thanks for the feedback, mine doesn't have the tag... Maybe I'll pick up a gel and use it til it's intolerable in the summer :dunno

Is there such a thing as a solo gel seat (with rack) for the Scrambler. The 2007 Scrambler I bought two days ago came with two seats, the regular dual seat and this solo gel seat. It is much softer than the regular seat but I don't see a solo gel seat being offered for sale anywhere. Thanks, Rob

I agree with vzshadow, my seat is more than adequate. My only mild concern is the suspension is sometimes harsh over big bumps or holes in the pavement. What amazes me is that some people have bought three or four seats looking for that perfect seat. Even people who order Corbin and the like send them back several times for refitting. Guess my body type just fits the stock seat fine enough for me. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to design a seat to literally satisfy everyone and still maintain the purchase point that Triumph does.
