Max RPM damage?

So when I dropped my Bonnie in the parking lot the other day, I didn't have the presence of mind to hit the kill switch as I was trying to lay it down, instead I must of wound open the throttle and the motor screamed until it lost consiousness after a few seconds. After picking it up and riding home the motor seems ok but is it detrimental to scream the engine like that? And does it have an automatic cut-off in the event of a spill?

they do have rev limiters. makes the engine "stutter" to hold the rpm down. first time I hit the limit was just after the breakin period, I thought I had floated a valve, but no damage.

Your '09 SE has a tip-over safety switch that detects when the bike falls down and turns injection and ignition off. It resets when the bike is picked up again.

It also has a rev limiter so no mechanical damage from over-revving either.

What about a rev limiter on the older carb models? Anything there to stop you from damaging the motor.

They have one too, incorporated in the igniter unit.

Mrs Nickwiz and I bounce our bikes off the rev limiter at the Ramsey Sprint every year. They're still going and Mrs Nickwiz maybe cam wear turned out to be faulty ignition causing the rattle. So I'd say no probs.
