I use the jjCyclepass holder, mounted it on the clutch side of the handlebar, it was kind of a tight squeeze but it fit. Never really bothered me much, but it can make an annoying rattling noise at certain rpms if the screws aren't tight (or the cover clip is loose). Once it was mounted I never had a problem with the gate not going up.
All the TBTA bridges/tunnels have toll gates (except for the Henry Hudson), so if it doesn't read, the gate won't go up. Those toll sensors are pretty finicky, the gate never went up with the ezpass in my pocket. I used to shift into neutral and hold up the pass with my throttle hand, but that was a pain.
