Excellent job Eric. In times of natural disasters and other emergencies the simple efforts of one man can and do make a difference in the lives of those who are suffering. Good on you!

Richard

See you somewhere down a twisty road....

Eric, I've submitted your story to Triumph North America motorcycles on FB. I'm sure it will have to be approved first; however, I believed that this example was an honorable way to give aid to a community while utilizing a modern classic and therefore, deserves recognition.

A job well done!

Hurricane and motorcycle

Were there any other motorcycles besides you and the other guy? I would think the dirt bikes would be a huge help. Thank you for helping your neighbors.

Seconded. I would very much like to read a detailed account of your disaster-rider adventure!

I'm doing my best to stay in touch with the people on the ground out there during the week. We are getting ANOTHER major storm tomorrow and Thursday that will cause more problems but I have been part of a major effort to get a convoy of vans full of volunteers down again this weekend. I unfortunately won't be able to ride out again until Saturday. I'm hoping by that point communications will be better and I will be able to spend more time at individual sites. I found buildings with elderly residents stuck on upper floors completely divorced from aid. It is a horrific situation.

I will keep everyone updated. Just the fact that I'm able to get out to the area through traffic is a huge advantage. Please find information on twitter at @OccupySandy and at http://interoccupy.net/occupysandy/

These civilian organizations are honestly the best way to get help to the area. Red Cross donations are not finding their way to this particular area, though they are helping in other hard hit regions.

Hey Eric,

do you know if motorcyclists specifically can still be of help out there? My friend and I were thinking of riding out there this Sunday to survey the damage and assist.

Thanks.

They are DEFINITELY going to need bodies every single day for the foreseeable future. You can stop by one of the hubs listed on the site I gave above, but honestly if you just go out there you WILL find somewhere that needs volunteers. I would recommend starting at 96th or 113th and Rockaway Beach Blvd. There's also a large aid station at 38th and Beach Channel. I don't know anything about the efforts in Staten Island or elsewhere.
