I recently ordered a Triumph Steve McQueen SE T100.
http://www.triumphmotorcycles.com/motorcycles/range/classics/bonneville/special/10238
Come May/June they should start arriving at the Dealers.
1,100 of the Steve McQueen SE's will be manufactured, a little over 300 (?) will be imported to the U.S. Each will have a plaque between the handlebar with an identifing number (1/1,100 etc.).
I thought it would be interesting to keep track of as many Triumph Steve McQueen SE T100's as possible.
When you receive your Steve McQueen T100 check in with your special identifing number, Country & State.
And don't forget to post pictures of your new Triumph Steve McQueen SE! :)

What's to review? It's a regular Bonneville with some different paint and some Steve McQueen stickers.
Sounds like you wrote the review. :D

One interesting tidbit of useless info in the article; Triumph has built 120,000 Bonnevilles since 2000... that's 1 in every 5 bikes Triumph builds.

I had a good look at the Steve McQueen T100 at the Progressive Motorcycle Show in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday. It was upstaged by the new Tiger Adventure, but they had drawing entry forms to fill out because they are giving away a Steve McQueen T100 to a lucky winner. I filled out an entry and I sure wasn't the only one who did.

As far as I could tell, the Triumph area at the show was the most crowded area in the convention center. Triumph is exciting to those of us who ride them and those who are thinking about a new motorcycle. That is good news indeed. Whatever the press says is up to them. People like Triumph.

Regards, Chuck

I just read the review and am not sure what the problem is. Seemed very accurate to me.

Did you disagree with the part about kayaba forks and shocks being a little lacking?

Maybe the fact that the solo seat was nice unless you wanted to do two up?

HP or torque numbers?

I did note they are going to be hard to come by. I like the bike just as much as any other Bonneville but do not understand the morbid fascination with all things Steve McQueen. I am pretty sure he would not authorize this if he were alive but that is just my speculation.

Much like Paul Newman it seemed his acting was just something he did to support his racing habit.

Harley makes limited special edition bikes all the time to jack prices for the "limited" SE, its profitable and were all suckers for something. I won't/wouldn't get the McQueen bike but I don't see it as a bad thing either. I did put my entry for the drawing in at the MC show in Minneapolis. I would not turn it down if I won one.

Think Triumph have made a Boo Boo with this 2012 ltd edition, what were they thinking with those turn signals, rear light speedo also spoils it as does the colour .
Don't buy one. I'm sure Triumph will not be upset. They are not going to have any problem selling them

Ok By Me

Most of us cosmetically enhance our Modern Classics to some degree, and the McQueen is just a way of doing the same thing in advance. In my case, this special does evokes warm memories of the man and his strong interest in motorcycling, and I am sure that both the '59 and '60 specials attract enthusiats for similar reasons. Besides motorcycling is not a rational activity so why question a given bike's personalization so closely?

I own an 09 T100 and love Steve McQueen as an actor and motorcycle enthusiast, but am I the only one who finds this new McQueen model a little lacking? It doesn't stir my soul as much as my beautiful Forrest Green/Ivory T100 does.

As always, YMMV.

McQueen Racing's special Bonneville

Hi all, really glad to see the high level of enthusiasm for the SMQ edition. Chad and I were just as happy as you when bike 0000 and 0002 arrived in late May. It had been almost a year since he worked with Triumph on the concept for the SMQ edition.

I was able to ride the 0002 bike out to the Friends of Steve McQueen car show earlier this month, so Chad and Steven (Steve's grandson) could get some seat time with it.

One thing you learn during this process is that producing a limited edition bike can be a challenge. First, the bike has to be certified for sale in all markets. This also limits the kinds of aftermarket performance mods you can do, while also still keeping the target price affordable. It's actually easier to make an expensive custom one-off than it is to produce 1100 bikes that can be sold worldwide and warranted. That's why we were pleased to see how well the bikes turned out. Triumph did a great job executing the concept; it instantly has a cool vibe.

Of course, with friends like Bud Ekins and Von Dutch, Steve never kept any of his bikes (or cars) stock. He aways had a few tricks up his sleeve, and that is a practice that Chad has kept going with each of his rides.

You'll want to stay tuned in a few weeks for a fun surprise...

Thanks for posting those pics! We saw the bike when we were at the FoSM Show. That is one awesome event! Dealer just called, we pick up our SMQ Bonnie Tomorrow! :D
