Having been searching on the mesh jacket threads but haven't found anything that looks classic or like vintage gear. With spring here it would be good to know if there are any new ideas.
I guess mesh is going to look like mesh and it's hard to use it in a vintage look.
What is the best jacket for hot dry weather that also looks vintage?
The best hot weather jacket I have now has no armour. Maybe I should sew pockets into the elbows and shoulders for pads.
Seconded. I bought one of these last year. Great fit (and I'm no stick insect!). I was also after a classic look for riding my Bonnie. Felt the Highgate fitted the bill as it is basically plain with gold Triumph logos.
I wear a Joe Rocket mesh jacket, it's great though maybe not very retro. My riding bud has a Triumph Raptor that he loves and is perhaps a bit more classic. Both easily found on ebay.
Have a look at the Triumph city jacket, not mesh but wax finnish with plenty of protection and cool enough with liner out and would class as classic look
I've wore the Riffel Dynamic (www.riffel.com.br) summer jacket for all the last brazilian summer (including 30ºC+ temperatures) and I can tell you it is a great summer jacket, very well made (with a CE approved armor: shoulders, elbow and back). It is not vintage, but I think it is not too modern or "clowdish" (does this word exist?).
Seems a little crazy to me to buy a summer jacket in black. You get a nice breathable design, then dye it the most heat-absorbing color possible?
No one wants to wear white, of course, but my perfect summer jacket would be perforated leather in a natural, light-tan color. But there ain't no such thing. So I found a light-tan, unlined leather shirt on ebay, under which I wear strap-on elbow pads. It's slightly loose fitting, so with a bit of wind it balloons and feels like I'm not wearing a shirt.
I know, it's not much armor, but it's a hundred times better than a t-shirt. And until someone makes my perfect summer jacket, that's gonna have to do.
uh why not? I wear white? White Icon gloves, white Icon mesh jacket, white Icon leather Jacket. White Adidas Shell-toe shoes, (black tips)... it matches the black and white checker bike. or is there something I dont know?
I have been looking for a classic looking mesh jacket also.I tried on the Triumph Highgate jacket at my dealer.Looks great but the mesh is very coarse.Like sandpaper. There is not any soft material around the neckline. It rubbed my neck so bad in just the minute that I had it on that my neck turned red.Unbearable.Also the fit is like wearing a suit jacket.Stuck in one position with the sleeves down.Would not be comfortable for riding.Too bad.It is a great looking jacket.I guess I will be sticking with my 6 year old Joe Rocket mesh jacket for now.It is definitely not retro looking(shiny silver)but it is very comfortable.
I have the Triumph Highgate mesh summer jacket. I like it well enough, but looking in the mirror, I feel a bit silly. Apparently Englishmen do not have very broad shoulders and the jacket makes me look like I am shrugging my shoulders. If it had a more triangular cut, I would really like it better.
I have a British Motorcycle Gear Zodiac in Black and Gray. The websites pictures aren't very good, because it does have a much more retro look. Check out webbikeworld's review, http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/belstaff/zodiac-jacket/. It's not mesh (which is probably a good thing for safety), but it breathes great. I live in South Louisiana, and it gets HOT and rarely dips below 90% humidity in the summer (May thru September here), and it's been pretty comfortable. As a bonus it comes complete with armor all around and it's pretty cheap!
Perforated leather; and comes with armour. Flows air really well. I use it here in Hawaii and it's just fine. Only hot if I'm stopped for too long, but that's prolly gonna be the case with any jacket.
