Bonneville Headlight Replacement

Was told by Brent of Newbonneville.com that the perfect headlight replacement for the Bonneville is the Sylvania H6024 sealed beam halogen unit.

I bought one but have yet to install it as I was able to clean the fogging off of the reflector and the inside of the lens of my original unit using a soft cloth sprayed with Windex poked through the bulb opening.

I'm going to try both the original unit and the Sylvania to see which has the best performance.

The only problem that I can see with the Sylvania bulb is that the parking light function is lost.

That's smart. I tend to go overboard to have what promises to be the latest and greatest, when I could probably have 90% of that at a fraction of the cost/effort. And then I end up with new issues. My bulbs in my relayed system last about as long as my oil does. If those sealed units work, you've probably come out ahead of me and saved a bunch of bucks doing it.

My relayed PIAA motorcycle bulb has lasted through at least three (annual) oil changes, still going strong.

getting the most out of any lighting requires full power!! get a relay setup or if like me not much into electrical get a setup from easternbeaver, you can even get a headlight shutoff wired in for easier starting, danielstern also tells why you need full power and you can't get it going thru the headlight controller, even works for cars too!!

Installed the Sylvania H6024 "SiverStar High Performance Lighting" seal bulb today.
Purchased from Canadian Tire in Cambridge, Guelph didn't have any in stock.
Thanks to FastFreddieCAN for the encouragement.
The install was without drama except when the spring on the horizontal adjustment screw flew into the garden.
The bulb does fit perfectly, glass tabs fit into the inner rings slots, very little finessing to put it all back together and adjust the aim.
Did a test ride tonight to check the aim - beautiful light quality, pattern and strength!
Definitely a recommended upgrade.

No problem at all with the 2010, try a dab of di-electric grease on the tabs.

The tabs on the Cibies are pretty long too for our reflectors. Not sure what the deal is. I have a feeling that it's our reflectors that are a bit out of spec. If the Sylvania was just a little too long, I'm not sure there will many alternatives that are better.

I had to force things a bit for the Cibie. I wasn't feeling good about it at the time, but it worked out.

Revival...

I was able to get Triumph to replace my defective headlight due to a mucked up reflector and stuff actually dripping on the inside of the lens. BUT the replacement was only marginally better. Still dull and hazy. Even with a 2 year warranty, I don't see the point of fighting with Triumph to put in another KNOWN DEFECTIVE PRODUCT!!

I was reading one review of the Hella on Amazon, stating that they are designed for "right hand drive" roads, not USA roads. That may be the case, but MOST roads in Europe are NOT "right hand drive." So if anyone has more to clear this up, please enlighten me.

Are there still some mounting issues with the H6024 on 2011>?

I don't ride at night that often. The dual headlights on my V-Strom are awesome, as one would expect! I don't know if a rider could tell the difference between riding with a nice, shiny reflector, or one that is a bit dull (mostly on the sides.)

Given the rather small price outlay for either ($20-$40) what are the pluses and minuses of the H6024 vs Hella?

I'm resurrecting this thread because I installed a Sylvania 6024 sealed beam in my 2011 T100. It was a little difficult and in the end, there is a gap on the side of the headlight where the outer and inner rings meet. It's on the side where the adjustment screw is. I'm concerned it will be too easy for water to make its way in and it just looks a little off. Suggestions?

@Cbp2011 ; did you ever figure this out? I have the exact same issue. In my case even putting the original bulb back presents the same issue. Everything fits the only way they really can and seems right until I put the whole thing in the outer ring. Then I have a gap that seems impossible since the inner and out rings are the same sizes they’ve always been.

I've done a couple of these swaps now, sounds like the bulb or the rings are not mounted properly, is the "Sylvania" on the lamp lens perfectly horizontal?

It's in there as well as I can. Dead level and all the tabs line up. Problem is it doesn't seat quite as well as the factory reflector. I took it out for a ride and it seems fine. If there's a problem I'll just swap the original reflector in and buy a new bulb.

When Beefy swapped out his lamp for a 6024 he had a similar issue, we opened it back up started over again, second time everything lined up tight.
Wish I could remember where the hang was...

I'm fitting a 2003> Honda Hornet/CBR600F/599 headlight to mine. It uses seperate H11 bulbs, one for high beam, and a seperate one for dipped beam so the reflector is optimised for each beam instead of a H4 which is a compromise for the dual filament bulb.

It's best to fit relays with the upgrade and wire it so the dipped beam stays on with the high beam. The Triumph pilot bulb holder fits the hole in the Hornet headlight so that doesn't need to be changed.

I'm using a normal relay and a double make break relay for the high beam, using terminal 87b to keep the dipped relay switched on when I switch to high beam. I'm also using thicker wires for a reduced voltage drop at the bulbs. I used a tinted film on mine as I like the look of yellow headlights.
