Glad to hear that ypou seem OK but give it a day for the bruises to show and the stiffness to set in. From my experience your initial reaction can be down to adrenalin and the fact that the body takes 24 hours to tense up and this can take a good 2 weeks to clear.
As to the police thinking thats it's OK as no one was hurt to much. Well that attitude just pains me. As you say - could have killed you. The fact that they didn't was just chance. They were clearly driving without due care and attention and should be done for such. Cagers will not think that looking out for bikes is important until they get routinely done for not doing so.
