I hear you Bob - I was out saturday, waved at everyone. Thought there was something wrong with me for a while, with everyone looking so miserable. Eventually I happened across real riders, out having a good time and waving back in an appropriately comradely manner.
I think the non wavers are the mid-life-crisisers, all trying to look "badass".
I just fitted a pair of those risers last night for exactly the reason you mention. It certainly feeld like my back is starighter now - I need to do a properly long ride to test them out. Those risers just about go in - I had to readjust my clutch cable a tad, but no biggie.
