I'm on my 3rd bike now to which I have fitted a fenda extenda, and I have never drilled any of them, I just stick them on with a outdoor silicone sealant and leave to dry for a day. Never had one fall off yet.
I'm not to keen on the looks as tim100 says, but they do help with all the crap that gets thrown up.

The fit is perfect, yes its close, but it just follows the contours of the fenda as it should do.

If you do use silicone just take out the fenda bolts so you can get your fingers behind to 'squeeze' it together so the silicone gets a good grip.
