I'm looking at the illustrations in the Triumph Manual . They show:
- thin spacer on the sprocket side.
- thicker 'stepped' spacer on the brake disc side, with the small portion on the outside.
I've had mine off and on at least half a dozen times, and aside from it being difficult sometimes to get all the pieces and parts in place before inserting the axle, I've never had the wheel lock up as you are describing.
