Gear shifter whacked

While riding my '06 955i today, the tranny quit shifting. I could Go from first to second, but no further. I pulled over and tried shifting by hand, but could not feel it shift through the cycle. While riding (very slowly, in second gear) towards home, it got to the point were it would not stay in first during down-shifting, but would pop into neutral, unless I kept the lever down with my foot until time to release the clutch.

I prayed, and after getting no Divine solution, I whacked the foot lever with my boot, which allowed it to shift into 3rd. I did it again and got fourth. I came to a light, down-shifted and had the same issues all over again. I finally made it home and am currently missing my Bonneville, which gave me over 8000 trouble free miles. The Tiger has fewer than 2700 and a gearbox that is beyond clunky; it's junky.

Anyone got a solution? Mine will be to take it to the shop and let the warranty take over.
