Low fuel light won't go out

OK, I've had this problem a while now, maybe a year !

Initial problem was fuel gauge stopped working but light stayed on. Local mechanic rewired a connector and the guage got going again but permanently read high, low fuel light stayed on.

Dealer suggested ECU corrosion, but have been unable to check that by swapping the ECU out. Instead bought a used fuel float which is now in.

Fuel gauge now goes up and down as the bike points up and down hill, which should be good news, but still to run it low to see how accurate it's reading.

BUT

the low fuel light remains on......

Any suggestions ?

The weird thing is, every now and then it goes off and stays off for minutes at a time. Could it be as simple as a dodgy connector somewhere ?
