I'll second all those recommending Sidi boots. But there are different types, and some are more comforable for walking than others. Of course, while you're on the bike, the normal "bike" boot is extremely comfortable. How much walking around will he be doing while using the bike.
I have two styles. And LongRoadHome is right on the money about NewEnough. Great to deal with. Look up the types of Sidi there!
