This isn't anything new from Triumph my 96 Sprint had a horrible cam chain tensioner failure at 30k "the dealers response was the blades that hold the rub strip were made of low grade steel this isn't the first one he had seen". Now I own a nice boat anchor...all the valves smashed the pistons due to this little whoops.
