bloody chuffed i am

Had to share this moment, so sorry for boring you......just got my T509 on the road (legally) after over 12 months without it, back in October 2006 my gearbox let out a frightening noise and the 4th gear cog shattered leaving bits all thru the gearbox, luckily i'd read about the problems this gearbox has had so was prepared for the eventuality, so we stripped the motor and began the task of repairs, then as always happens, something came up, in this case it was a seperation from my wife and i moved from the IOM back to good ole blighty....bringing my T509 back with me as a rolling chassis and boxes of engine parts and body panels....not looking good and i was very worried it was gonna be that way for ever.....good news, i met a chap called Gus from Gusspeed engineering who has since become a great mate, he stripped it all down "properley" and sorted the gearbox problems then proceeded to find more problems, the clutch basket springs had broken....£370 for a new clutch basket........no way i could afford that so in true bike builder style he made good using what he had and what he could get hold of......the outcome is a clutch that works a treat...and a method he is employing with other Triumphs as this is an ongoing problem with older engines like mine and the 955's.
after sorting the gearbox and clutch he changed the head gasket and sorted out the fiddly bits. on sorting out the feul injection he discovered one of the injectors had buggered up, dont know the techy word for it so buggered up will have to do im sorry..anyway £120 each for injectors had me reaching for the JD again to drown my sorrows, another call from Gus "i've found injectors from a Suzuki Hyabusa and i can make them fit, it'll use a bit more fuel but you should see a small increase in performance as well"......"fit em" i screamed..£45 for the three is better than £360+....well he was right, they have turned it into a flying machine...then he remapped it for the race can....i can actually ride at 30mph now without pulling wheelies as i had to be in 1st gear before to do 30mph....not ideal in traffic or bumpy roads..all in all Gus has been an absolute genius mechanic, one of the old school of thought....if i aint got and cant buy it I'll make it......

thanks for putting up with my drivel, hopefully one day i'll see you in a bar, a field or on the road.....ride safe, ride longer
