Engine may be running too hot

Alright, so the last time I rode the coolant began to boil due to the engine being too hot.

Before then I was sitting in stop and go (not more than 5-10 mph) traffic in 42 degree weather for about 45-50 minutes total. I put in some new coolant and ran the bike around for 10 min to see if it would overheat again. It didn't.

The radiator pump and thermostat seem to be working, since the coolant was boiling (how else would it boil if it wasn't circulating properly).

I'm going to check the plugs to see if they are running too hot later this week. The oil level is at the right level. The (new) coolant is up to the recommended amount now as well.

Got any clues to why the engine got so hot? Or am I just getting worried for nothing and it was simply because I was in traffic for too long?

96 Speed Triple if you are all wondering.
