Thanks for that byjingo.
I have the socket in front of me now and the connections are just as you described, they're in a T formation.
I haven't got my bike close by, but I remember the connection is the same too, so I'm sure this socket will fit the plug on my bike.
In the instructions though it says, (under a "Warning" heading):

"This accessory kit is designed for use on Triumph Tiger (1050cc) motorcycles only and should not be fitted to any other Triumph model or to any other manufacturers motorcycle"

Mind you it then goes on to say:

"Fitting this accessory kit to any other Triumph model, or to any other manufacturers motocycle, may interfere with the rider and could affect the handling, stability or other aspects of the motorcycles operation which may result in loss of motorcycle control and an accident"

The warning is obviously a standard statement Triumph use in all their instructions, so I'm not concerned that I could lose all control of my bike by fitting the socket, it's just that it does state that it's for the 1050 only that makes me wonder.
Mind you I've read posts on this forum where other members are fitting sockets made for tractors or boats (as they're all the same), so I'm sure it will work with no problems at all.
Unless of course the 1050 is not a 12 volt bike......
