Fuel Injectors
Your issues sounds similar to a friends 955i. When riding to a stop, the bike would just shut down. He had the problem diagnosed as bad fuel injectors. After having a few replaced, the bike ran fine. I've heard fuel injectors were a common problem on early 955i engine equipped Triumphs.
Might be a good place to start looking.
