No you don't if you get the correct Electronic FLasher Module; these are available for < $20 and plug n play versus having to splice in resistors, which then get hot.

Also, I'm not fond of the suggestion to re-wire the bike's connections to fit the wrong part - down the road that undocumented change to stock wiring is going to cause someone problems. Just get the correct part to begin with!
