I threw my hands up earlier and called Symtec. I talked to the president himself (he answered the phone). We spent almost 30 minutes on the phone diagnosing the problem. It turns out that I have a shorted element, (the clutch side high setting). He's going to send me another clutch side heater.
So I wasn't doing anything wrong after all. I just thought I was crazy!
