Electrical Connection LED Turn Signal Modification
I recently installed this kit on my 2007 T-100 rear turn signals. It's a great concept and it works as advertised-glad I did it. It adds a circuit board that fits over an existing bulb in the turn signals. It makes the turn signals red running lights and brightens them to brake lights when the brakes are employed. It makes the turn signals change from running and or brakes to amber turn signals to keep it legal.
Here's a couple of tips: The wire connectors that come with the kit are the usual cheap stuff. I used Posi-Lock wire connectors and Posi-Taps which are easy to use and are high quality-no cutting or splicing. These little deals are expensive but they are truly worth the cost.
There is little room in the tail light housing to make connections so I made mine near the brake light plug connection under the seat.
The bulb size has to be increased to get the round circuit boards to fit properly o them but it's just a matter of a buck or two. I did not like the fit of the circuit boards around the bulbs and the back of the boards had sharp solder tips that made contact with the back of the light housing.
So, I put a piece of electrical tape around the boards to make a coffer, then I added about a 16th of an inch of epoxy resin to cover the sharp tips. It serves to make a smooth surface and it makes the circuit boards fit snugly. The epoxy dries in about half an hour, I removed the tape and took an emery board and smooth any rough or uneven places.
It makes for an easy and secure installation for the kit and it really makes the back of the bike much more noticeable.
I'll add some photographs this weekend if anyone would like to see the installation.
