Take both the old and new units and look at the prongs. There should be letters at the base of the prongs. The replacement one that I bought had two of the letters switched. (It did not work either when I first hooked it up.) I switched the wires on the socket to match the prongs. Installed and it works great. Be careful when removing the wire connector from the socket. Use small needle or nail that will fit in the small little square on the outside edge of the connector. Slide the nail in to release the tab on the connector from the housing. Before re-installing make sure to bend the tab away from the connector so it will re-hook on the housing.
