Easiest way is to take the carbs off.
You can do it witht he carbs on, but it is a fiddley job, and you will need a long screw driver to hold the throttle open and you will need to make a hook (an old coat hanger is what I used) to get the cable on at the carb.
Best bet is to prevent the cable from snapping, with regular and lots of cable lube.
