I am with Gary... I use Microsoft Streets and Trips.

The ability to drag the troute to whatever road you want makes for fun planning. Another feature I love (I suppose other software has it) is to put in MPG figures, breaks and such in so you get a comprehensive idea of what the ride will be. Especially helpful if you have a largish group with different fuel economy/tank sizes.

You can usually pick up the current version at a Costco (don't know about BJ's) for something like $30. And then you get the $20 rebate. Can't argue with that.
