Hi Steve - You take off the left side cover and pull out the "snorkel" (it's the rubber, elephant trunk looking thing facing forward). Yank that out to expose the air filter. The filter is held on with three screws behind a plastic retaining ring. Once that's gone, simply pull out the filter.

Tha Haynes manual will help a ton with stuff like this.
