Hi kenmat - In '89 I lived in California, and bought BMW R100GC Paris-Dakar from a dealer in Ohio. Before I did so, I called the DMV and asked them wat was required. The person on the other end of the phone told me with a motorcycle it would be no problem, just bring it in and they would register it. The dealer in Ohio told me they sold many 49 state bikes to people in CA, so I went ahead and made the deal. Then the DMV refused to register it since it didn't have a CARB sticker on it. They wouldn't listen to the argument that they told me it would be OK - all they wanted was the name of the person who told me that so they could discipline him. Bottom line - go to the DMV with the specific model of the bike, ask them what to do, and GET IT IN WRITING!!!!!

Good luck, but I wouldn't do it again.
