Not certain about the 05-06 by my 07 responded very well to a better flowing exhaust. I bought an Akrapovic Titanium Megaphone thats made for an 06-07 R6, fabracated a connector pipe and the results were amazing. I removed everything from the right footpeg back and installed the megaphone with in the typical Moto-GP style location. I couldn't get in on the Dyno, Arizona Victory couldn't figure out how to put it on the Dyno without a spark plug wire to connect to. Seat of the pants improvement is obvious though, with bottom end torque being the most obvious improvement.
With the stock exhaust, when I snapped the throttle open quickly the front end came up at about 3/4 throttle, now its up at less than half. Midrange is definitely better and top end feels close to the same. Strange, you'd expect a pipe like the Akrapovic Megaphone would make mostly top end, but I swear it feels like the biggest gain was 3-6000 rpm, with smaller gains everywhere else too.



Oh, forgot to add that its LOUD. Not so bad at low load, low rpm but when you twist the throttle its almost as loud as a Harley.
