The Triumph tach kit was first available in 2002 when the T-100 first came out as a Centennial model. It should plug straight in, but comes with an extra lead to connect to the ignitor which is under the seat. Instructions are fairly clear, and it's not too difficult to do.
As I'm in the UK, I can't recommend a dealer that you can get to, but I'm sure someone will be able to help out on this.
IMHO the 2001 model was the best version, and Triumph themselves have not made any real improvements. But then I would say that!
One problem which may occur with a 2001 is that some of the early bolts which hold the inlet manifolds to the head where supplied a couple of mm long, and bottomed out in their holes before they made a proper seal. So if you have some lean problems on yours this is something to check out.
