My ST used to do similar on over-run. In my case it was because a little air was bleeding into the pipe at the join between the can and the main pipe.

The slot cut in the can pipe end to allow it over the main pipe was a little longer than the amount that could overlap, leaving a little square hole for the air to get in.

Have a quick check for something similar
