I use a similar solution. I rarely need to worry because the helmet i use most is beat up and no one would ever steal it. But when i know i'm going somewhere that i'll have to leave my better helmet on my bike for more than a few minutes, i use a gun lock. Anyone who has guns in Ca.knows what i mean. When you buy a gun here you are by law forced to buy a lock with it, even if you already have one and can show it to them ! These locks are like a regular lock except that the shackle part is not a U shaped steel bar, but instead a steel flexible cable about a foot long. I never use them for guns being a single person with no kids to worry about. But i always save them in case i find a use for them. And i did ! I can lock the helmet to several places on the bike.
