Burning a higher than recommended octane in an engine is of no benefit and wastes perfectly good beer money. The only time I'll run a higher than recommended octane is when they oxygenate fuel during the winter months. Then it makes a difference. Until then I'll run regular if that's what the engine takes. Since both my TBA and Guzzi require mid-grade it's a good thing the Trip will drink regular.
