Unhappy Help! TBS won't start.

It's starting to get cold in upstate ny and I'm losing valuable riding time. Lights, horn, signals, everthing electrical seems to work fine. But when I push the start button all I get is one "CLICK" from the left side of engine near the starter. Replaced the battery so it is not that. Oh, and if I put it in gear and move it forward a few inches it would start again when I put it in nuetral, (until a few days ago that is). That trick no longer works. Any ideas what exactly might be going on? If it is the starter, would I neccissarily need to replace the whole thing or could I possibly get the particular part I needed ? Buying a whole new starter would deplete my whole (secret) motorcycle fund. Yes, I am married. Would greatly appreciate any help as I am a complete dunce when it comes to mechanical matters. 98tbs
