Question Faulty Rad Pressure cap?

I had the flickering coolant light problem, and went to my local Triumph dealer to get it fixed. He told me that in addition to the ground problem ..that I also had a faulty rad pressure cap..and that only a little bit of coolant was present in the bike..A New one was fitted and new coolant was added. On riding the bike home, after 7-8 miles the temp light came on and stayed on (no flickering). On reaching home I found that the engine, and my leathers were covered in coolant and the fan spinning away.Rang the dealer..who spoke to the technician, who says that it "could only be a faulty rad pressure cap"..and so I'm waiting for them to collect the bike to re-do the work.
Is it common or likely for rad pressure caps to go wrong like this?even if it was brand new? The dealer assures me that the coolant system was properly bled.
Your thoughts gentlemen please!!!
